ATLANTA (August 15, 2016) – Eighty local Allstate agents, financial specialists and their staff joined together in a mission to help raise the state’s awareness of the dangers of texting and driving by supporting the Corky Kell Foundation and the upcoming MetroPCS Corky Kell Classic on August 18 through 20. By hosting “X the TXT®” events during the tournament, Allstate hopes to garner 5,000 pledges not to text and drive.

The Classic, which is in its 25th year, will kick off a highly competitive high school football season in Georgia by featuring nine action-packed games at Mercer University, McEachern High School and the Georgia Dome.

“In 2015, we saw a 17 percent increase in Georgia traffic fatalities, the first increase in nine years. This is a public health crisis for Georgia and Allstate wants to do our part to help raise awareness of the situation and make a difference in the community,” says Adam Polak, Allstate spokesperson. “The Corky Kell Classic is the perfect event to get this message out to a large group of young teen drivers and their parents.”

“The Corky Kell Classic is very excited to welcome a great company, Allstate Insurance, as a supporter in 2016,’’ said Dave Hunter, Executive Director of the Classic. “We feel that our Silver Anniversary event will be the best ever and Allstate’s assistance and participation will make it even better. We look forward to a long-lasting relationship.’’

Eighty Allstate volunteers will serve throughout the classic and as a result, the Corky Kell Foundation will be eligible for nearly $70,000 in Allstate Helping Hands grants. An “X the TXT” station will be set up at each of the nine games, where local agents will talk to fans about the dangers of distracted driving and encourage them to take the pledge not to text and drive by adding their thumbprint to a pledge banner.

Upon pledging, participants will receive thumb bands with the words TXTNG KLLS to wear as a daily reminder to their commitment. After the event, local agents will host additional X the TXT events throughout the state in their local communities.
