Allstate Offers Insurance Claims Help for Customers Affected by the California Wildfires
Rancho Cordova, Calif., October 11, 2017 – Allstate is committed to helping residents begin the rebuilding process following the California wildfires. Claims personnel are on the ground in the affected areas to help customers begin the claims process.
Allstate customers whose homes or automobiles have been damaged or destroyed by these wildfires, or who were ordered by civil authorities to leave their homes, can file a claim using one of the following methods:

Remember, personal safety comes first. When it’s safe to do so, consider the following tips when returning to homes in fire-affected areas:
- Make temporary repairs. Check your policy to see if it provides reimbursement for temporary repairs that are needed as a result of the fire to prevent further loss. Keep an accurate, detailed record of temporary repair costs to submit to your adjuster for possible reimbursement.
- Review your homeowners’ policy for additional living expense Customers who were ordered by civil authorities to leave their homes may be eligible for Additional Living Expenses (ALE). Check your homeowner policy or contact your local agent or adjuster to see what coverage your policy provides.
- Review your automobile policy. Talk to your agent to determine whether or not your auto insurance policy provides coverage if your vehicle is damaged by fire.
If evacuations may soon be a possibility in your area, be aware of information provided by local authorities and law enforcement on when to evacuate and when it is safe to return home. Allstate and the Insurance Institute on Building and Home Safety (IBHS) have ways for people to make sure they’re ready to evacuate when a wildfire threatens.
Before leaving home…
- Gather important documents such as insurance policies, birth certificates and identification.
- If it’s safe to do so, conduct a home inventory of your property. You can even use Allstate’s free Digital Locker app to help keep track of belongings, model numbers and stores where items were purchased.
- Contact your local agent to review your policy. Determine whether your policy provides for additional living expenses if you’ve been evacuated from your home under orders of local civil authorities.
- Prepare an emergency supply kit including a supply of water, non-perishable food, radio and batteries, flashlight and a first-aid kit.
If leaving home…
- Develop an evacuation plan that includes at least two exit routes from the neighborhood. Choose a route away from fire hazards and watch for changes in the speed and direction of fire and smoke.
- Be aware of information provided by local authorities and law enforcement on when to evacuate and when it is safe to return home.
- Close windows, vents, doors, Venetian blinds or non-combustible window coverings and heavy drapes.
- Notify neighbors, family and friends of your intended destination, and exchange contact information.
