Allstate® Life Insurance Company and Give Your Sole Launch Shoe Donation Program at 13.1 Marathon® Series Races
Allstate, Give Your Sole to collect athletic shoes before and during races to benefit local homeless shelters; program kicks off at Chicago race on June 9
Allstate Insurance Company and non-profit organization Give Your Sole are giving half marathon runners the chance to leave a unique footprint on local communities as part of a shoe donation program around Allstate Life Insurance℠ 13.1 Marathon® Series races.
Beginning with the Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon® on June 9, race participants, spectators and local residents can donate moderately used athletic shoes to benefit homeless shelters and missions in race markets. All shoes collected in Chicago will be donated to Breakthrough, an organization that provides shelter, meals and other services to homeless men, women and children within the city.
Race participants who donate the shoes off their feet after crossing the finish line at 13.1 Marathon® races will be provided with free flip-flops to wear home, courtesy of Allstate Life Insurance Company.
"While avid runners tend to change their running shoes every couple hundred of miles, there are thousands of needy individuals in our country who go without adequate footwear every day," said Don Civgin, president, Allstate Financial. "Together with Give Your Sole and the 13.1 Marathon® Series, Allstate Life Insurance Company is committed to having a positive impact on local communities by addressing an important need through this shoe donation platform."
To celebrate the program launch in Allstate's hometown of Chicago on June 9, Allstate Life Insurance Company has teamed up with Chicago Bears' 2012 first-round draft pick Shea McClellin to interact with runners and encourage donations at the Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon® Finish Line Festival, held at the South Shore Cultural Center.
Since 2009, Give Your Sole has had an active presence at running events, collecting moderately used shoes at races and keeping the donations local by partnering with charity recipients within race markets.
"With 49 million Americans living below the poverty level, people need our help more than ever," said Brett Byrd, founder, Give Your Sole. "For many families every penny is crucial and giving them shoes allows them to spend their money on other areas of need such as food and shelter."
In addition to the Finish Line Festival, race participants and local residents will be invited to donate shoes at 2012 race packet pick-up events leading up to Allstate Life Insurance℠ 13.1 Marathon® races. Participating Allstate® agents will assist with collecting donations by inviting customers to drop off shoes at their local agencies. In Chicago, donations will also be collected at participating Fleet Feet Sports store locations.
"To have an amazing partner like Allstate Life Insurance Company bring on a world-class charity like Give Your Sole is a prime example of the true impact that events, along with their corporate partners, can have on the local communities where the events are staged," said Greg Laird, founding partner and CEO of US Road Sports. "This is a win-win for everyone in the Chicago community."
