Matthew Winter is president, Allstate Auto, Home and Agencies, and a member of Allstate's senior leadership team. In this role, he leads Allstate’s personal lines businesses that provide auto and home insurance through Allstate agencies, including Insurance Operations (Allstate Claims, Product Operations, Risk Management and the Program Management Office) and Agency Operations (Exclusive Agency Sales, field operations, Customer Experience and Retention).
Previously, Winter was senior executive vice president, Insurance Operations, and president and chief executive officer of Allstate Financial, which offers a range of life insurance, retirement and investment products that provide financial protection and help middle-income Americans better prepare for retirement. Before joining Allstate in 2009, Winter held senior leadership positions at large-scale providers of life insurance and financial services. He served as vice chairman of American International Group ("AIG"). In addition to being responsible for numerous global functions at AIG, he also served as president and chief executive officer for AIG's American General domestic life companies, including the entire AIG North American life insurance operations. Previously, Winter was executive vice president at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, where he oversaw all domestic insurance businesses and distribution channels.
Earlier in his career, Winter was vice president and chief ethics and corporate compliance officer for Connecticut Mutual; worked for several years as an attorney in white collar criminal defense; and served 12 years of active duty with the U.S. Army.
Winter earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, a J.D. from Albany Law School of Union University, and an LL.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
